What can a Residential Structural Engineer do for you?
Most residential structural engineers will be able to assist with designing works to a property, including an extension; loft conversion; outbuildings and/or new buildings. A residential structural engineer will be able to produce structural drawings and complete structural calculations to ensure that the proposed design is robust and that the contractor pricing the works is aware of the requirements. The residential structural engineer can design steel beams to enable spaces to be opened up, can confirm size of timber members, can clarify the construction of foundations and floor structures, and can also provide guidance on the construction of external walls.
A residential structural engineer can also produce drawings and design information that is required to be submitted to the local planning authority in order to obtain planning permission or information that is necessary to obtain building control approval. Residential structural engineers can also be involved in Party Wall Awards, as they can produce the relevant information and assist with designing the party wall works.
In addition to structural design, residential structural engineers can undertake structural inspections. The inspection by a residential structural engineer may be to advise on a number of requirements, including reports to assist buyers with purchasing a new home; identifying causes and making recommendations for remediating building defects and assessing requirements for temporary works.
